I found this series of interviews extremely interesting. It talks about happiness and why Americans are so unhappy and what we can do to become happy. (Don't worry, they're short)

And I have to say, for the most part, I'm quite happy. Internally, I am happy and content. My life is very empty and empty in a good way. It's very simplified and quiet. I try not to take on more than I can handle so that I'm not stressing and this also allows me to be fully present when I am doing something that makes me happy. In other words, I'm not spending time outside taking pictures and thinking "fuck I should be doing laundry" or whatever.

The other thing he mentioned was gratitude and appreciation and I realized that I am so very thankful and appreciative of so many things in my life, that I really should keep a journal of them. So I'm going to start doing that. I'm actually going to keep a handwritten Gratitude Journal, which I will also share here if you are interested.

I'd love to hear people's thoughts on these series of videos!

Interesting videos...and I definitely agree with this guy. I find that with the people I know that are unhappy it usually has something to do with always focusing on the things they don't have instead of the many things they do. It's so easy to pay attention to the things we want and don't have, or the things we think that are lacking, while overlooking all the good things we do have that we take for granted. Like a guy that might have no girlfriend and that constantly gets him down...he might not stop to think about the fact that he has a car, a job, good friends, his health etc. I think in general people focus too much on the negative and don't notice the little positives.

I think it's important to take the time to find peace within yourself. Stop constantly stressing yourself out, stop creating and participating in drama, don't become to attached to all the material things, don't look outside of yourself for things to validate you as a person & on & on. I think true happiness will always come from the inside out - it's something you have to create and cultivate for yourself by being mindful.

I totally agree. Sadly though, I think more people just focus on "what external thing is going to make me happy."
