A body of water, smaller than a river, contained within relatively narrow banks. Creek

2. What the thing you push around the grocery store is called. The boat or shopping cart. It depends on if we get one of those huge annoying kid shopping carts

3. A metal container to carry a meal in. Weapon or Lunch box.

4. The thing that you cook bacon and eggs in. Frying pan or sometimes we use a griddle.

5. The piece of furniture that seats three people. Where Jim naps or the couch

6. The device on the outside of the house that carries rain off the roof. Gravity? Or do you mean gutter?

7. The covered area outside a house where people sit in the evening. Porch

8. Shoes worn for sports. I just called it by what kind of shoe it was (golf shoe, cleats...etc)

13. Putting a room in order. Cleaning or in my case OCDing

14. The thing under a house where the furnace and perhaps a rec room are? We never had a name for it, but we just called it the ghost that lived in our house. LOL But where homes aren't haunted, we call it a basement.

21. What do you call the thing that you can get water out of to drink in public places? Water fountain or germ carrier.

22.
I found this series of interviews extremely interesting. It talks about happiness and why Americans are so unhappy and what we can do to become happy. (Don't worry, they're short)

http://cosmos.bcst.yahoo.com/up/player/popup/?rn=3906861&cl=6462869&ch=4227541&src=news

http://cosmos.bcst.yahoo.com/ver/251.7/popup/index.php?cl=6462881

http://cosmos.bcst.yahoo.com/ver/251.7/popup/index.php?cl=6462886

http://cosmos.bcst.yahoo.com/ver/251.7/popup/index.php?cl=6462902

http://cosmos.bcst.yahoo.com/ver/251.7/popup/index.php?cl=6462904

http://cosmos.bcst.yahoo.com/ver/251.7/popup/index.php?cl=6462910

And I have to say, for the most part, I'm quite happy. Internally, I am happy and content. My life is very empty and empty in a good way. It's very simplified and quiet. I try not to take on more than I can handle so that I'm not stressing and this also allows me to be fully present when I am doing something that makes me happy. In other words, I'm not spending time outside taking pictures and thinking "fuck I should be doing laundry" or whatever.

The other thing he mentioned was gratitude and appreciation and I realized that I am so very thankful and appreciative of so many things in my life, that I really should keep a journal of them. So I'm going to start doing that. I'm actually going to keep a handwritten Gratitude Journal, which I will also share here if you are interested.

I'd love to hear people's thoughts on these series of videos!

Here's my feed if you want to add it to your LJ friend page: http://syndicated.livejournal.com/dmgj/profile

Not like they told you love is, and I didn't know this either, but love don't make things nice - it ruins everything. It breaks your heart. It makes things a mess. We aren't here to make things perfect. The snowflakes are perfect. The stars are perfect. Not us. Not us! We are here to ruin ourselves and to break our hearts and love the wrong people and *die*. The storybooks are *bullshit*. Now I want you to come upstairs with me and *get* in my bed! Moonstruck

4. Longing. Longing for a wave of love that would stir in me. That's what makes me clumsy. The absence of pleasure. Desire for love. Desire to love. Wings of Desire

5. Everyone has something they're good at. I've always been stupid, but I'm good at this. Breaking the Waves

6. Excuse me lady, but that upon which you sit is mine. It Happened One Night

7. The dead have no titles. You were the most powerful man in England. And you could have been greater still, but you had not the courage to be loyal, only the conviction of your own vanity. Elizabeth

8. I read once about a woman whose secret fantasy was to have an affair with an artist. She thought he would really see her. He would see every curve, every line, every indentation and love them because they were part of the beauty that made her unique. Cashback

<s>9. I've got the guts to die. What I want to know is, have you got the guts to live? </s> Cat on a Hot Tin Roof

10. It is dangerous! You know, there's nothing more off-putting in a wedding than a priest with an enormous erection, yech! Four Weddings and a Funeral

11. If I don't make you my friend it means I gotta kick your ass every time I see you. Nobody wants that, do they? Heaven Help Us

<s>12. It's not a question of where he grips it! It's a simple question of weight ratios! A five ounce bird could not carry a one pound coconut.</s> Monty Python and the Holy Grail

13. Well, if some people get upset because they feel they have a hold on some things, I'm merely acting as a gentle reminder: here today, gone tomorrow, so don't get attached to things. Harold and Maude

14. The river was cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of those rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs. I am haunted by waters. A River Runs Through It

15. You know Steve, you're not very hard to figure, only at times. Sometimes I know exactly what you're going to say. Most of the time. The other times... the other times, you're just a stinker. To Have and Have Not

Hello everybody in LJ land.

I started a journal for Lorna. No I'm not kidding. I know she's only 3 going on 4.

But I gave her my old Nikon CoolPix and she walks around and takes photos of things.

So I started a photoblog for the photos Lorna takes. It's neat to see things from a kid's perspective.

I'll try to post at least a photo a day. She picked out her theme btw, and she tells me what to call the photos.

So add her if you want to see some odd pics from a child's perspective: lornaseye.

Numerology for the New Year

Hello everyone in LJ land. I thought I'd be nice to everyone and post your Personal Year Number for you.

To figure this out you take your birth date and add it to the current year.

For example, here's mine: September(the 9th month), 17 in 2008: 9+1+7+2+0+0+8=27--->2+7=9.

So mine is a 9 for this year. Keep in mind that there are special numbers as well to NOT break down further. That would be 11 and 22. You will need to look up 11 (and 2) and 22 (and 4) if yours happen to fall into those two number categories.

The 1 Personal Year - Follow Your Dreams
This is the year to follow your dreams. You are starting a new cycle. You are beginning to fill the pages in an empty book, and the plot is up to you. You will be more motivated than ever and open to new ideas. You will find that when you are on the right track things will almost magically fall into place for you. So, don't stand around and wait for things to happen. This is the year when you make it happen or you might miss the boat. You will notice a strong urge to change directions and won't be afraid to try something new, so let go of the past and let the adventure begin. You are in control and ready to take charge. Make a list of your goals and follow your impulses and visualize what it is that you want in your life. Whatever direction you are going, whatever you do it will be with you for the next 9 years. In this one year your life will revolve around you and it will be hard to include others if you are not aware of this.

Taking the analogy of a farmer planting a field, time to plant the field.

The 2 Personal Year - Cooperation
After going it alone and doing it your way during the last year, it is time to shift gears. After a busy number one year you are ready to slow down and catch your breath. Cooperation and patience are highlighted. Only this way can you continue the work on what you started last year. Pushing things right now will only cause trouble as now is the time to pay attention to details, after all the planning and effort you put into last year. Be ready to wait and don't let it bother you. You are integrating, joining the aspects of your new life with the aspects of your old life. You may be more sensitive than you're used to as you are not quite so sure of yourself yet, but that will come as the cycle progresses. As the number 2 implies things will go a lot smoother if you involve others. So share your ideas with others and listen to them and be available. Relationships will play a big role in your life in the next 12 months and you are ready now to include a special someone in your life or to let go of one. Responding to the needs of others will come naturally this year.

Taking the analogy of a farmer planting a field, the seeds are germinating.

The 3 Personal Year - Express Yourself
After the two year of integration and inward focus you are now ready to practice what you have learned. You will feel a strong urge to get out of a rut and want to have fun. Your social life will increase substantially this year. You can't wait to express yourself and your creative juices are flowing full force. You are ready to include others in your life and want to expand your focus. Your increased activity brings you also recognition and with it the danger of spreading yourself too thin and will put pressure on your pocket book. Spend your money wisely. Your outlook in general will be very optimistic and you might come up with all kinds of "crazy" ideas and feel restless. Because of your urge to go madly off in all directions, you will find it harder to get things done. So focus on the things that attract you the most. When unsure as to where you're going and having to make important decisions it is best to take a wait and see attitude. When you're absolutely convinced it is the right decision go for it. In the meantime take full advantage of this very creative time in your life. Communication and creativity on all levels is highlighted this year for you.

Taking the analogy of a farmer planting a field, the first shoots are showing.

The 4 Personal Year - Taking Care of Business
This is the year to take care of business. So now down to the nitty gritty. You are ready to settle down and put down roots. You want everything organized and in its place. This is not a gee, I have to do it, but great, now I can do it and really enjoy the work. You are making plans and goals and accomplish them. The results will be flavored, however, by your intentions. Is your outlook only for yourself or for the greater good of everybody? Depending on your choice your accomplishments will be totally different. You act very responsibly this year and what you set out to do, you see through. You are planning for the future. In any dealings you have it is important to get to know the facts and not to take risks. Your focus is on mending and repairing rather than daydreaming. You're more self-assured and trust your instincts and don't accept others opinions as easily. But at the same time respect other people's opinions as equal and don't criticize them for being different from yours. Having to work on something you have already done will bore you and make you feel confined. So keep an eye open for new projects that challenge you. There is no way getting around budgets and routine this year. Keep your promises and work through difficult situations. Next year will be much freer. Don't let the restrictive feeling bring you down. When the year is over and you look back you will be proud of what you have accomplished.

Taking the analogy of a farmer planting a field, the little plants are growing nicely.

The 5 Personal Year - Change and Surprise
You are smack dab in the middle of the 9 year cycle and in dire need of a break. You have this strong urge to break free and change things and try something new. You need a change of scenery. Change will be all around you and so will surprises. Things will happen when you least expect it and when you do expect it will turn out totally different, especially in May and September. But, watch out for change for the sake of change only. Avoid impulsive decisions and don't burn your bridges. Stay flexible and count to 10 before making any decisions that will have lasting effects that you might regret your impulsiveness. It will be very easy to go overboard this year after the restricting 4 year. Socialize and promote yourself and your projects. Your enthusiasm will be catching and attracting people. Guard against overindulgence and use your energy wisely. Following rules will not appeal to you this year. Finding a new job or having an affair are just two of the many possible scenarios for you this year.

Taking the analogy of a farmer planting a field, a critical time for the plants, they will either grow big and strong or die.

The 6 Personal Year - Nurturing
Family, friends, coworkers all fall under the heading nurturing this year.

You will take a backseat to family and friends. It is a time to take care of your family and everything that comes under that heading, your family, your community, country and the earth. The spotlight is definitely on domestic matters. Home and hearth might not be quite to your liking if you have many "Threes, Fives or Ones" in your numerology chart, but that's the hand you have been dealt this year, so make the best of it. You might have to deal with marriage issues, good or bad. Buying or building a house, having a baby, getting married are all possibilities. You are giving back to others what you have received. This is a time for generosity, forgiveness, growth and maturity. You will be able to counterbalance this domestic focus by finding new outlets for your creativity.

Taking the analogy of a farmer planting a field, the farmer nourishes the plants by fertilizing them.

The 7 Personal Year - Reflection
It is somewhat of a sabbatical year for you. After the 6 year where you took care of just about everybody else, this is the year to pause and take care of yourself. Look for answers inside of you rather than looking to others for answers. You have been going strong for 6 years now and time has come to look back, analyze and integrate everything. Take stock of what has been working for you and what you have outgrown. Observe with detachment what no longer works for you and ask yourself if you have outgrown it. Time has come to let go. You are slowly and patiently progressing. It is not a good idea to rush things this year. Place your focus on your skills and refine them. You feel a new sense of self-worth and a new maturity. Move forward slowly and with patience. Money is coming your way if you are willing to wait, pushing will not help. If you are tired, it is a sign telling you to slow down and bring back balance in your life. Things outside of your control may force you to slow down, if you don't do it on your own. In partnerships and marriage there could be conflicts arising, but taking a step back and reworking agreements will bring things back on track. Remember what is happening is meant to be that way. Enjoy the tranquility of this year as next year will be very hectic.

Taking the analogy of a farmer planting a field, the farmer is patiently waiting for the plants to mature.

The 8 Personal Year - Test and Evaluation
You have done your reflecting last year and now you are switching from looking inward to looking outward. You are manifesting what you have worked on during the past 7 years. The physical world with its material issues, career and worldly accomplishments will take up a lot of your time. You are ambitious and now you know your strengths and are willing to take on more challenges. When things get getting hectic you have a better understanding now as to what needs to be done. You are confident, feel fit and know where you are going. You will be tested and evaluated. So go for it and keep in mind that being organized will make life much easier for you at this time. You will get the recognition you deserve after all the hard work you have put into it. Money will be a big lesson with income and expenses running neck to neck. Money owed to you might also find its way back to you. It is a great year to sell or buy property and investments. You are attracting abundance. Lock forward toward the future and not the past and your mistakes. Setbacks are only temporary as obstacles are opportunities for growth.

Taking the analogy of a farmer planting a field, just about there. The plants show what they will look like when they're ready to be harvested.

The 9 Personal Year - Graduation
You are starting the last chapter in your 9 year book. The cycle is coming to an end and like in the 7 year you will find yourself focusing much more inside than outside. This is the time of fulfillment and completion so that you can move freely into the next cycle without extra baggage from this cycle. Expect changes in many areas of your life: job, marriage and lifestyle. It is time to tie up all the loose ends, but don't start anything new just yet, especially between January and September. By October you will already notice the influence of the new cycle and it is OK to make major decisions. This is the year to let go. There will be people and things that have served their purpose and it is time to let go and move on. Clean out your closet and make room. Try out something you've always wanted, but never quite got around to it. Listen to your intuition, be generous, stay open minded and maybe even take that long wished for trip. Be tolerant of others and yourself. It is not the time to be petty, nagging or depressed. Go with the flow and enjoy wherever it takes you. You have completed a full circle, but it is not a circle it is a spiral. You are at the same place as 9 years ago, but on a higher level. You have grown.

Taking the analogy of a farmer planting a field, harvest time and time to prepare the field for next year's planting.

The 11 Personal Year - Spiritual Focus
If your personal year adds up to an 11 you will have both the influence of the 11 and the 2 in your life. The number eleven will influence you to filter everything through your intuitive, spiritual and inspirational focus. You feel the urge to contribute to humanity and will be an inspiration for others.

The 22 Personal Year - Serving Others
If your personal year adds up to an 22 you will have both the influence of the 22 and the 4 in your life. The number 22 will influence you to filter everything through your intuitive, spiritual and inspirational focus. Your goal is to be beneficial to others and humanity on a large scale.

I don't expect you to comment on every entry, or post something on your journal everyday. Just let me know you're around once in a while.

3. Jokes about hurting them are not funny to me.

3. People who are looking to bulk up their friends list.

If you wish to add me as a friend, please let me know why you added me or why you want to be added. It's frustrating when people just say "added!"

If I add you, and later I feel we aren't really compatible, I will be honest cut you as a friend. All it means is that I feel we weren't compatible or you fit one of the 3 "What I'm not looking for" stated above.

Thanks!

I've decided to do a page dedicated to my favorite artists. That's actors, musicians, directors, painters, writers.

None of these are in any particular order of importance, so I just alphabetized them. I thought of as many as I could and I'm sure I'm missing some. If I think of more to add, I will do so later.

Let me say that I like a lot more than I'm putting down. However, these are the people that draw me in. They are the reasons I pick up something to read or decide to listen to or to watch. You'll probably notice some "big names" missing, but that's not an accident. And although I like them, I could also pass on them. So here goes.

I'm putting this under a cut because it's super long.

Let's start with Music. Again, I listen to A LOT of music of a lot of different kinds, but these are the ones that get played the most and that I could listen to over and over. For example, I like REM, but they're not on my list because after a couple songs, Michael Stipe's voice gets on my nerves.

Here tis:

Tori Amos
Beck
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
Feist
Frederic Chopin
Pearl Jam
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Cat Power
Damien Rice
Regina Spektor
Simon and Garfunkle
The Strokes
Tom Waits
The White Stripes

Onto films. I have to say I'm a music lover first because without it I would die, but films are a close second...it's almost first. Again, I like a lot of films, but these are the most watchable and most memorable for me. Keep in mind I haven't included really new releases because I haven't seen a lot of them yet. So, the list may be added to later.

Here they are:

300
The Boxer
Breaking the Waves
Cashback
Cat on a Hot Tin Roof
Christmas Story
Cinema Paradiso
Clerks
Closer
Cold Mountain
Dandelion
Dogfight
Ed Wood
Elizabeth
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Fast Times at Ridgemont High
The Fisher King
Flirting
Four Weddings and Funeral
Harold and Maude
Heaven Help Us
The Ice Storm
The Incredibles
It Happened One Night
It’s a Wonderful Life
Lord of the Rings (all of them)
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Moonstruck
My Own Private Idaho
Office Space
Once Upon a Time in America
The Princess Bride
Raising Arizona
A River Runs Through It
A Room With a View
The Royal Tenenbaums
Secret of NIMH
Secretary
Sex, Lies and Videotape
Somersault
Spinal Tap
Stand By Me
Star Wars IV, V and VI
To Have and Have Not
What’s Eating Gilbert Grape

Now for the directors:

Paul Thomas Anderson
Wes Anderson
Tim Burton
Frank Capra
Cohen brothers
Sofia Coppola
Terry Gilliam
Lasse Hallstrom
John Hughes
Peter Jackson
David Lynch
Anthony Minghella
Mike Nichols
Robert Redford
Jim Sheridan
Kevin Smith
Steven Soderbergh
Gus Van Sant
John Waters

Onto actors. Same as before; These are my most loved (even though I like a lot more than is listed). I base my criteria on this: If there is a movie that I would usually pass on because of subject matter, but one of these actors are in it, I will see it. Even if it looks incredibly stupid. Also, if it's an ensemble cast and I don't like one of the actors in it, I will still see if I really love the other ones in it. A good example would be Closer. I don't like Julia Roberts. I think she's over-rated and flat as an actress, but I loved the other three that were in it, so I saw it. Plus it was directed by Mike Nichols, so that too.

And the winners for best male:

Humphrey Bogart
Jeff Bridges
Gerard Butler
Brain Cox
Russel Crowe
Daniel Day Lewis
Johnny Depp
Edward Furlong
Clark Gable
Ryan Gosling
Jake Gyllenhaal
Lukas Haas
Jude Law
Tobey Maguire
Ewan McGregor
Bill Murray
Liam Neeson
Paul Newman
Clive Owen
Sean Penn
River Phoenix
Giovanni Ribisi
Peter Sarsgaard
Stellan Skarsgard
James Spader
Noah Taylor
Elijah Wood

The winners for best female:

Lauren Bacall
Cate Blanchett
Helena Bonham Carter
Toni Collette
Abbie Cornish
Maggie Gyllenhaal
Scarlett Johansson
Nicole Kidman
Juliette Lewis
Shirley MacLaine
Gwyneth Paltrow
Natalie Portman
Christina Ricci
Isabella Rossellini
Emily Watson
Kate Winslet
Reese Witherspoon

Now for the writers. I must say I don't read as much fiction as I used to. I'm more into biographies and practical "how to" guides. This list of authors covers comics, fiction, poetry and non-fiction.

Douglas Adams
Robert Creeley
e.e. cummings
Diane Di Prima
Neil Gaiman
Matt Groening
C.S. Lewis
Pablo Neruda
Anais Nin
J.D. Salinger
J.R.R. Tolkien
Kurt Vonnegut Jr.
Bill Watterson

And last but not least, the painters. I didn't include photographers because although I LOVE photography, it's really based on what shot moved me as opposed to who took the photo. So here are my painters.

Gustave Caillebotte
Pino Daeni
Salvidor Dali
Brian Froud
Edvard Munch
Georges Seurat
Theophile Alexander Steinlen
Vincent Van Gogh
Jack Vettriano
John William Waterhouse

So that's it folks. My list of favorites. If you're unsure who any of these people are or want to know more about them, you can find most of the information at www.imdb.com. The painters may be harder, you'd just have to google them.

You can of course always ask me and I'll give you an earful.

I also have a list of most-hated (mostly music, films and actors) but that list is way to friggin long. But I have to say for the record that I hate Tom Cruise. Nothing to do with the Scientology crap or all this recent hoo-ha about him. I've just always thought he was grossly over-rated. He plays the same characters w/o much range of emotion. Never mind the fact that in interviews he comes off incredibly boring and not too bright.
